SafetySuit originated as the band Crew, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was originally composed of Doug Brown, drummer Tate Cunningham, and bassist Jeremey Henshaw. After winning a local talent contest, Crew began to increase in popularity in their hometown, and, in 2005, decided to relocate to Nashville, Tennessee in order to grow the band. In the summer of 2005, the members of Crew were found by producer Greg Archilla, who helped them record their first independent record Crew EP. The band continued to grow in popularity locally until they were signed by Universal and changed their name to SafetySuit in order to distinguish themselves
